The Prix Galien France rewards health innovations each year.
Professor Guillaume Canaud is the winner of the Prix Galien 2022 for his work on the disharmonious hypergrowth syndrome, due to the mutation of the gene PIK3CA causing excess cell and tissue proliferation in the body.
This gene is responsible for major deformities and vascular swelling.
Professor Guillaume Canaud and his teams have been leading work demonstrating the major benefit of using alpelisib (a drug used in breast cancer) for patients with CLOVES syndrome or related disorders, who have seen their health and quality of life improve significantly.
More than 150 patients have been treated in this way.
